Good vision is essential at every stage of life — from studying and working to enjoying time with family. Regular eye exams help detect and correct refractive errors that can make daily tasks difficult. At EDMC, we diagnose and treat myopia (nearsightedness), which causes distant objects to appear blurry; hyperopia (farsightedness), which affects near vision; and astigmatism, where the curvature of the eye leads to overall blurriness. With precise testing and personalized guidance, we help you see clearly and comfortably again.

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye, a process often compared to looking through a foggy or dusty window. It is a very common and normal part of aging, but it can significantly impact your vision and quality of life. The initial symptoms are often subtle: you might notice that colors seem faded, or you experience increased glare from headlights when driving at night. As the cataract progresses, vision becomes generally blurry or dim, and you may find yourself needing frequent changes to your glasses prescription.

At East Delhi Medical Centre, our primary focus is the early and accurate detection of cataracts. Leveraging our advanced diagnostic technology and the deep expertise of our 30+ year veteran ophthalmologist, we can identify the presence and progression of a cataract long before it severely impacts your vision. Our eye specialists will carefully monitor your condition and have an honest conversation with you about the right time to consider cataract surgery—one of the safest and most successful surgical procedures performed today. Our role is to guide you with clarity and confidence toward restoring your bright, clear vision.

Glaucoma is often called the "silent thief of sight" for a crucial reason: it is a serious eye disease that damages the optic nerve, usually due to high pressure inside the eye, but it often has no early symptoms. The vision loss it causes is gradual, typically starting with your peripheral (side) vision, and is unfortunately irreversible. Because the changes happen so slowly, many people do not notice a problem until significant, permanent damage has already occurred. This is why regular screening is not just important—it is the only way to protect your sight from this condition.

An experienced ophthalmologist can detect glaucoma in its earliest stages. At our eye centre in East Delhi, a routine glaucoma screening is a simple and painless part of a comprehensive eye exam for adults, especially those over 40 or with a family history of the disease. We use a procedure called tonometry to measure your eye pressure accurately. While there is no cure for glaucoma, early detection allows us to manage it effectively with prescription eye drops or other procedures to lower eye pressure and prevent further vision loss, preserving your sight for the years to come.

If you have diabetes, a regular, comprehensive eye exam is one of the most important appointments you can keep. Diabetes can affect your entire body, including the tiny, delicate blood vessels in your retina—the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye. Damage to these vessels is a condition called Diabetic Retinopathy. In its early stages, it causes no pain and may not have any noticeable symptoms, yet it can lead to severe, irreversible vision loss if left undetected and untreated.

Every person with diabetes should have a dilated eye exam at least once a year. Our eye specialists in Shahdara are experts in screening for and managing diabetic retinopathy. During the exam, we carefully examine your retina for any signs of damage. If the condition is detected early, we can recommend steps and treatments to slow its progression. We work in close collaboration with your managing physician to ensure your eye health is a central part of your overall diabetes care plan, helping to protect your vision from this serious complication.
